Beehive Family Expo & Fair

Looking for a FREE activity that will be fun for the whole family? Then look no further that the Beehive Family Expo & Fair coming THIS weekend (Saturday, March 13th from 10am - 6pm, & Sunday, March 14th from 10am - 5pm).

The entire event is totally & completely FREE (although there is a $10 parking fee), as long as each attendee brings TWO cans of non-perishable food to be donated to the the Second Harvest Food Bank (otherwise, admission is $5).

There will be carnival rides, bounce houses, games & prizes, drawings & giveaways, photo contests, hands-on arts & crafts, local youth performances, & a laser tag course. The expo will also host over 200 vendors from across Orange County, featuring the latest & greatest, must-have products for moms, dads, children & babies.

Great Skate & Snow Day at the Great Park

One of our favorite FREE winter activities is returning to the Orange County Great Park... the Great Skate Ice Rink. The ice rink will be open Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, January 30th - February 28th, 2010, from 11am - 10pm. & Have I mentioned the best part yet? The Great Skate Ice Rink is absolutely & completely FREE! Admission is FREE, Skate Rentals are FREE & Parking is FREE. That's as FREE as you can get! Can I get a "Woot! Woot!"?

But that's not all... a Snow Day is kicking off this entire month of FREE ice skating. If you head over to the Orange County Great Park on Saturday, January 30th (between 11am & 4pm), you'll see the park transformed into a winter wonderland complete with snowman building, sledding, ice skating, hockey skills games, craft & all sorts of snow play. The entire event is FREE (although parking is $8) & there's no need to bring your sled, there will be plenty on hand. Just don't forget to dress warm & bring your mittens!

Cirque du Soleil

Get your tickets now for Cirque du Soleil. The excitement begins January 10, 2010 under the Grand Chapiteau (fancy name for big top) at the Orange County Great Park. But don't dilly dally too long, the show will only be here a few short weeks, until January 31st, 2010. Buy your tickets HERE, you definitely don't want to miss out on all the acrobatics. (& If you just can't wait until January, then you could always check out their show in October, up in Santa Monica.)

OC Great Park's Movie on the Lawn

On Saturday, April 25th the Great Park of Orange County will be hosting a FREE family event Picture the Park. "This family event will offer the opportunity to explore one's imagination and vision of the Great Park through creativity and hands-on activities, including 3-D art, sidewalk chalk drawings, and agricultural art."

FREE Ice Skating & More...

This coming Saturday, March 14th "say 'Goodbye' to Winter & 'Hello' to Spring!" That's right, the Orange County Great Park is celebrating this seasonal transition with FREE activities like ice skating (11 Am - 1o pm), sledding, ice carving demonstrations, treasure hunting, snacks & more (10am - 3pm)!

If you can't make the big "Shamrocks & Skates" Event on Saturday, don't worry... just as our reader Aracely reminded us of last week, you can still enjoy FREE ice skating all weekend long, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, from 10am - 10pm. But, don't forget this is the last weekend for the Great Skate, so you better head on over there quick to take advantage of this great offer!

Free Balloon Ride

We spent Saturday previewing the Great Park and rode in the Great Park Balloon, the first major attraction of the park. The balloon takes you up to about 400 feet in the air and you can see all over Orange County. My kids loved the ride and the best part is that the whole morning was free.

Flight Schedule (including Night Flights):
Thursdays & Fridays: 10:00am - 3:00pm; 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Weekends: 9:00am -3:00pm; 7:00pm - 10:00pm (Get Directions)
(Flights are subject to winds and weather conditions.)

Tip: Wind conditions for flying are best between opening and 12:30pm.

For the convenience of guests, the parking lot opens 30 minutes before normal operating hours. Registration begins 15 minutes prior to the first flight. As weather permits, the last flight of the day is at 2:50pm.
